Elk M1 Gold Self Monitoring and Professional Monitoring

Self Monitoring and Professional Monitoring for Elk M1 Gold

The Elk M1 Gold is a very powerful and flexible security alarm and automation system.  It can support both professional monitoring as well as self monitoring.

Elk M1 Gold Self Monitoring and User Control:

  1. By landline telephone connection with dial in, dial out, voice menu, voice announcements, remote control by phone
  2. By Internet by using the M1XEP Ethernet interface - email based on rules/trigggers and remote control via app

The M1XEP can also be connected by network to certain automation systems like ISY994 or Polisy or Vera/Ezlo systems (check hub documentation for compatibility), in which case remote zone and status may be reported through the smart hub.  Otherwise there are a couple of (paid) apps available for iOS and Android that work with the M1 Gold via M1XEP.

Elk M1 Gold Professional Monitoring:

  1. By landline telephone to a central monitoring station
  2. Internet or cellular by adding a communication card such as BAT-CONNECT or Uplink or similar communicators.

BAT-CONNECT, Uplink and similar communicators tie in to the telephone connection on the Elk panel and perform "dial capture".  Elk thinks it's calling out by phone but the signal is redirected over Internet and/or cellular.  This can provide zone reporting and alarm conditions.

BAT-CONNECT and some communicators like Uplink also have a relay output that can be tied to an Elk wired zone designated for "key switch" operation which will allow the Elk alarm system to be armed and disarmed remotely.

Dial capture cannot show current status of zones or the alarm but it can communicate burglary, fire, panic alarms with triggered zone information.

Often a mix of the two techniques will be used.  The M1XEP Ethernet interface provides email alerts and alarm status while the communicator reports to the station.

Note:  Elk's ethernet/cellular communicator does not work in Canada.
