Foscam DDNS Discontinued - Alternative Options

Foscam DDNS Service Discontinued December 2020, What Other Options Are Available?

Foscam discontinued their Dynamic DNS (DDNS) service as of December 31, 2020.  For those who were using the Foscam DDNS service the alternative options are:

  1. Use the alternate DDNS service No-IP which is built in as an option to many Foscam products.  You visit their site and read about it on their blog page here:  https://www.noip.com/blog/2021/01/28/foscam-discontinues-ddns-service/
  2. Use a DDNS service that is supported by your router.  Contact your router manufacturer for details.
  3. Establish a static external (WAN) IP address with your Internet provider if they offer it.  Some services like Rogers Ignite never or rarely change the customer's WAN IP while others will change it frequently.  Not all providers offer a static IP as there is a limited number of IPV4 addresses available.
  4. Switch to using P2P remote access if your product supports it.  This method does NOT require port forwarding so from that perspective it can be more secure.   It also doesn't require a static external IP.
  5. Upgrade to a newer / different model that supports P2P remote access.
Whichever method you choose we strongly recommend ensuring you are on the most updated firmware version and use a very strong unique password.  Your password should be changed regularly.
