Inovelli Multi-Way Switch Installation Guide

Inovelli Multi-Way Switch Installation Guide

Inovelli smart switches can be used in both 3-way and 4-way setups to control a single load from multiple locations, with the preferred method pairing a primary smart switch with one or more AUX01 add-on switches for full feature support like dimming and multi-tap. Traditional dumb switches can also be used for basic on/off control, and multiple smart switches are technically possible but require more complex wiring and hub automation. The following sections outline each method, and compatibility, to help you choose the best setup for your installation.

Multi-Way w/Auxiliary Switch
The AUX01 add-on switch matches the Inovelli smart switch aesthetics, supports dimming or fan speed control at both ends, works in non-neutral setups, allows multi-tap scene control on switches made from 2021 onward, can operate in Smart Bulb Mode, and is a more affordable option than adding another smart switch.

Multi-Way w/Dumb Switch
Using a standard dumb switch is less expensive than buying an AUX or another smart switch, but it won’t match the smart switch aesthetically, cannot be used in non-neutral setups or with illuminated switches, only allows basic on/off control without dimming, and does not support Smart Bulb Mode.

Multi-Way w/2x Smart Switches
Using multiple smart switches allows dimming or fan speed control at both ends, supports multi-tap scene control, Smart Bulb Mode, and Animated Notifications (on compatible switches), but cannot be used in non-neutral setups and requires a hub that supports Direct Association, Direct Binding, or multi-tap scene control.
