Insteon Linking and Unlinking Two Switches or Dimmers
Insteon dimmers and switches can easily be linked so they can control each other. When linking devices there can be a one way link where Switch A controls Switch B but Switch B does not control Switch A. Or devices can be cross linked so both respond in kind when they are manually controlled.
To Link Insteon Dimmers/Switches:
- Turn the 'responder' switch or dimmer to the on level you want it to be at when the controller turns it on. In the case of an on/off switch this would be typically turned 'on'. In the case of a dimmer you can select a dim level
- Press and hold the Set Button of the controlling switch for about 3 seconds until it beeps and the LED on the left flashes green
- Press and hold the Set Button of the responder switch for about 3 seconds until it beeps once and the LED flashes.
- You have created a one way link
To Cross Link Insteon Dimmers/Switches, repeat the above process only in reverse.
To Unlink:
- Press and hold the set button on the 'controller' until it beeps and the LED starts flashing green
- Release
- Press and hold the set button again until it beeps and the LED starts flashing RED
- On the responder you are now looking to unlink, press and hold the set button for about 3 seconds until it beeps.
