POE Injector and POE Splitter Function
A POE injector plugs in to the router or switch port, and has a power supply that plugs in to the wall. The output port from the injector is for the network cable that goes out to your device complete with power & network signal combined, and therefore doesn't take up an extra switch/router port. If it's a POE enabled device on the other end, it just plugs in and splits power & network internally.
A POE splitter is used at the device end if the device is NOT POE capable in which case it removes power from the network cable, so it's safe for a regular camera - and then provides power on a separate cable for the device
