Which Smart Hub Supports Both Insteon and ZWave

Which Smart Hub Supports Both Insteon and ZWave

Insteon makes arguably the best smart home lighting system with respect to flexibility, scene lighting and fast response time.  It has the most flexible in wall scene controllers as well.  At the same time there are no Insteon locks and only one Insteon thermostat so we are often asked about using both Insteon and ZWave.

In fact it's not only possible but a great way to bridge the best of both worlds.  There are some very nice ZWave thermostats and ZWave locks from Weiser and Yale are excellent for smart home automation.

We suggest looking at the ISY994 with ZWave to support dual Insteon and ZWave platforms.  The ISY994 has an incredibly powerful if/then/else programming language and by far the best and most flexible Insteon support.  The ZWave version also supports ZWave lighting, ZWave locks and ZWave thermostats very well.  ZWave sensors and multi-IO devices are not as well supported but check their forums as they've made great progress in this area.

The ISY994 also supports both Google Home and Alexa voice assistant platforms using their optional network portal option.  We've found Alexa support to be the most stable and versatile so far but both work.   It's amazing to be able to speak to turn lights on and off.

The ISY also supports Elk Alarm systems and a number of other third party devices.

The Homeseer and Hometroller series also supports both Insteon and ZWave but Insteon support is through a 3rd party code writer and support is through forums only.
