Installing an Overhead Door Sensor

Installing an Overhead Door Sensor

The security of garage doors and commercial overhead doors for warehouses, logistics, distribution centers is accomplished with an overhead door sensor or garage door sensor.  We're often asked what to buy and where to install it and while this is the installer's preference and final decision, the two most common styles of overhead contacts are:

L Bracket Style

This style can be mounted on the bottom or top of the garage door.  Traditionally the sensor is mounted on the floor and it is in a heavy metal enclosure with armoured cable so it isn't easily damaged or tampered with.  The Magnet on the L Bracket attaches to the overhead door.  Models include the Flair VIP1000-98L.

Overhead Door Floor Mounting

The other option with this style is to mount the sensor to the wall at the top of overhead garage door and mount the magnet at the top of the door.  This option keeps the sensor and cables up off the floor and out of harm's way.

Overhead Door Top Mounting

Another option suited to panel doors is a track mounted sensor like the Flair 1000-SG or Sentrol 2315AL.  This again allows the sensor to be mounted up and out of the way.
