How to add ZWave Smoke and CO detection for new homes or rerofit

Is there a hardwired z-wave smoke detector? New house smoke detectors need to be hardwired for code

At time of writing there are no wired Zwave smoke detectors available but there are two options to add Z-Wave smoke detection.  In fact most new homes need to meet an array of requirements that may include using smoke/CO combination detectors, having built-in visual signals like a strobe, hardwired with battery backup, and interconnection between devices.  So for this reason you should work with your local agencies and pros to determine the requirements and install standard detectors.  We sell a variety of options that should meet code once you determine your needs.  See our selection of smoke and CO detectors.

To add ZWave smoke detection to a new home build or retrofit you can:

  1. Use a Firefighter ZWave smoke/co listener device installed near one or many detectors.  It will pick up the "temporal" audio from a detector that has gone into alarm and it can trigger your ZWave system.
  2. Add combination ZWave Smoke and CO detectors in addition to your home's detectors.  This is in fact how many alarm companies provide fire detection while leaving the working system in place.
