Insteon Hub and Device Alternatives
Insteon users are no doubt frustrated by what has been a total lack of communication from SmartLabs, Smart Home or Insteon in the past several months. At time of writing we haven't had any updates from the vendor but looking at forum posts and talking with the community it looks like the Insteon servers and forum are offline and we're left to assume the worst. Some of us at Aartech are also Insteon users and we are just as frustrated by the silence.
When it comes to warranty, that's something that has to be handled by Insteon and SmartLabs directly. However we did hold back a small amount of inventory to try to assist Aartech customers who may have to replace the odd failed device. Please contact support if you have a recent purchase that has failed. The Insteon Hub however is based on a cloud service and if their servers remain offline, replacing the hub won't help.
We've written an article that discusses some options to keep Insteon working. For example, folks using the ISY994 controller or other smart hubs besides the Insteon Hub, wouldn't have noticed the cloud going offline because they don't rely on the Insteon cloud. Many Insteon customers are using other hubs or software solutions to support Insteon and also allow for integration of ZWave, Zigbee, Lutron or WiFi devices as well.
